BC Lions Paul Mccallum To Join CNOY

Screenshot_6Every year  at SUM Place we serve hundreds of people – needing a meal, a place to live or someone to talk to. We work with people of all races, creeds, nationalities, orientations, sizes, colors and religious beliefs. We believe in helping our neighbors no matter where they come from, no matter their economic background.

We help not because we have to, but because we can’t not.

The “Coldest Night Of The Year” event is an opportunity for our volunteers to invite their friends and families to join us, learn about our Mission and experience for a few hours what our friends and neighbors experience every day of their lives. This year we invited McCallum from the BC lions to join us and we are pleased he has agreed to WALK with us.

Paul McCallum will join hundreds of our closest volunteers and friends in walking to raise awareness about Homelessness and Poverty in Surrey.

The ‘Coldest Night of the Year Walk’ is now held in 81 communities across Canada, including 19 in B.C.  To donate, volunteer or sponsor a walker contact the Surrey Urban Mission at 604-581-5172 or check out our CNOY page Here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Deco-Mesh-Christmas-Tree-798So much is happening here at the Mission right now. This is the Coldest time of the year for many of our friends so as you know our Extreme Weather Shelter program has begun. We’ve got our Christmas trees all set up and our decorations hanging. Our friends are excited to awake on Christmas Morning to see what Santa and his beautiful elves will bring as we are equally excited to work with Santa to give our homeless friends the best Christmas ever.

This our third year doing the Coldest Night of the Year challenge and we are excited to invite all of our friends, neighbors, volunteers, colleagues, and family members to join us and experience for one evening, what our friends experience every day of their lives.

Please head on over to our “Coldest Night of the Year” blog to check out our progress so far and join in the fun. You can donate, start a team or join a team. Every step counts to not only bringing awareness to the issue of homelessness and poverty, but eventually ending it all together.

Much Ado About Something

Much-Ado

The Surrlogoey Urban Mission is pleased to partner with RainCity, the City of Vancouver, The Surrey Homelessness and Housing Taskforce and the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society for the Surrey Premier of this exciting social commentary.

For Homelessness Action Week in British Columbia 2014, local artist, actress and director Luisa Jojic has created an exciting theatre project to stimulate dialogue and new understandings around the issues of homelessness.

me 041Under Jojic’s direction and guidance, a diverse group of participants have developed an original script together, using Shakespearean text as a foundation for addressing issues related to home, community, identity and belonging.

We are very excited about the coming together of individuals – folks who are vulnerably housed, formerly homeless or homeless and those with a higher incoming and have housing – in order to create produce and act in “Much Ado about Something”

This project will culminate in two performances during Homelessness Actin Week in October with the Surrey Performance at

Kwantlen Park Secondary School Theatre

10441 132nd St, Surrey

Friday Oct. 17 2014

Curtain Rises at 7:00 pm

Tickets are $25.00 per person and can be obtained by calling 604-961-2170 or by email at [email protected]

A reception will take place immediately after the performance to provide theatre goers with the opportunity to speak with the Actor, Playright/Director Luisa Jojic and the actors.
